Is there seriously nothing else????!!!!

So I was just watching FOX news and saw the following 2 interesting pieces of news:

1. A short video of a woman sent to jail for sending sexually explicit videos to someone

2. A walrus doing situps.

Often I have also seen videos of dogs that have bitten their neighbors and a 5 min report on the hideousness of the dog and its owner.

IS THERE REALLY NOTHING BETTER IN THE VAST EARTH AVAILABLE THAT CAN BE SHOWN ON THESE NEWS CHANNELS?????

Today the mainstream news channels are the most ridiculous and cheap forms of media available. It seems that there is a race going on between the news channels to create low quality junk that would appeal to I don't know what kind of mediocre minds. And this seems to be worldwide phenomenon.

What about addressing real issues like global warming (if you live on the east coast you will know that its pretty real) or cutting edge research or a newer philosophy or art or anything else that raises ones consciousness instead of pulling one towards mediocrity. There seems to be no solution but to revert to some aggregator websites (for example slashdot) for our news needs.
